Itasca County Sheriff's Office

The Itasca County Sheriff's Office is at 108 NE 5th Street in Grand Rapids. Sheriff Joe Dasovich has led the department since his 2022 election. The office employs 72 people as jailers, dispatchers, clerical staff, and road deputies. The county covers roughly 3,000 square miles in north central Minnesota, and the department handles everything from routine patrol to specialized units including a Drug Task Force, Dive Team, Emergency Response Team, Boat and Water Safety program, and D.A.R.E.

The jail was built in 1982 and has a total capacity of 184 beds. It runs around the clock. As of June 13, 2025, the Itasca County Sheriff's Office changed how it provides access to the jail roster. To view the current inmate list, you must download the Itasca County Sheriff's Office mobile app to your phone or device. The app is available for both Android (Google Play) and Apple (App Store) devices. This is now the only way to access the live jail roster online. The prior web-based roster is no longer active at that address.

The app, accessible through sheriff.itascacountymn.gov, does more than show the roster. You can also submit tips, read news, and contact the office through the app directly. If you do not have a smartphone, calling the jail at 218-326-3477 is the most direct option for checking whether someone is in custody. Public Access to Itasca County Arrest Records

Arrest records in Itasca County are public under Minnesota law. Minnesota Statutes Section 13.82 requires law enforcement agencies to release arrest and booking data when asked. The required data includes the name, age, and home city of the arrested person; the date, time, and place of arrest; the charges; and the arresting agency. No reason is needed. Any member of the public can make this request.

Exceptions exist. Active investigation data may be held under Minnesota Statutes Section 13.85 if releasing it would harm the case. Juvenile records are protected.
